CARPET is for creating softness by covering wood or concrete foundation in a room or space. Solid-colored carpeting has long been a favorite because it is a safe and easy solution that simplifies the task of establishing the color scheme of a room. It establishes the major coloration of the room without bothering one with the complexities that result from complex designs or multiple colors. Carpeting is also relatively easy to maintain in areas that are not subject to intense traffic or dirt. Simply vacuum it, and all but the most stubborn dirt is gone. Periodically have it shampooed.

The best carpeting is made of wool, and wool is the standard against which all other materials are measured. Of course, there are many synthetic materials that are also commonly used, and you should be aware of their general qualities.
